Juvenile Justice Programs

Juvenile Justice programs are accessible only through direct order from a juvenile court. Delinquency programs are designed to break the cycle of delinquent behaviors, including chemical abuse, poor anger management skills, and poor impulse control. Clinical services promote acceptance of problems and the need for treatment, begin development of skills to overcome negative behaviors.

Services include individual and group therapy, didactic education, family education and therapy, discharge planning and referral, and 24-hour nursing services for minor health problems. A consulting psychiatrist sees each client in residential programs, and is available to clients in delinquency day treatment. The average length of stay in juvenile justice programs is six months, with actual stay determined by completion of discharge criteria in the client’s treatment plan. A treatment team consisting of the client, clinician, behavioral staff and teacher work together to develop and monitor each client's treatment plan. Educational services are provided Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. by Volusia County Schools.

Delinquency programs serve moderate to severe delinquent clients ages 12 to 18 who are referred under court order by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, and whose behavior and physical health can be safely managed in the residential environment.

Residential clients may visit with family or guardians on Sundays from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. or Wednesdays from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m., following the Family Education Program. Arrangements for visitation outside of this time frame may be made with approval of the treatment team. Clients may make one fifteen minute phone call per week. Clients may send and receive mail and packages which will be opened by staff in the presence of the client.
