Depending upon medical need, clients may be admitted for medically supervised detoxification or referred to other services. Not all persons who have ingested intoxicating substances are in need of medical detoxification. Some persons, who are not currently using alcohol or drugs but have stopped abruptly after an extended period of continuous use, may be at risk for withdrawal symptoms. Evaluation by a medical professional is the best way to know.

Adult clients admitted under voluntary status for acute care of substance withdrawal symptoms are placed on the Detoxification Unit. This same unit functions as an Addictions Receiving Facility for adult clients admitted under a court order, physician’s order, or the protective custody of a law enforcement officer. Medical care for detoxification includes medications to ease the intensity of withdrawal symptoms as deemed necessary by medical staff. Medical and nursing care is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Medical care is supervised by Douglas Davies, MD, a board certified addictionologist. Detoxification stays typically range from three to seven days. Admission is determined by the client’s medical status, legal status, chemical use, withdrawal history, and withdrawal risk potential.

Stewart-Marchman Center offers a continuum of care for addictions and delinquency rehabilitation including detoxification, day treatment, residential care, supported living, recreation and aftercare programs. Programs are community based and family oriented. We encourage family members to participate in all phases of treatment. Fees for service are on a sliding scale.
