I'm a graduate of the Volusia County Drug Court Program. I've been married two times, currently divorced and have two adult sons. My marriages ended as a result of years of domestic abuse. I used alcohol and cocaine for about twenty years and have been arrested for various theft charges over the years. Three years ago, I was arrested for possession of cocaine. After failing to complete probation because of my drug use I finally turned myself into police. In jail, I asked for help and found Drug Court by word of mouth. I discussed this option with my public defender, and was admitted into the program.

I completed the program in fourteen months. During this time, I had to arrange for rides to all the required meetings. I had no license and lived thirty miles away from the courthouse I attended bi-weekly. I had to get a ride to the Stewart-Marchman Center where I attended treatment groups three times a week. I was a certified chef for many years and began working part-time as a cook in a small family restaurant. My dream was to open my own restaurant. Six months into the program I opened my own restaurant with the help of my family.

I am clean and sober for the first time in many years. I've survived domestic abuse, drug use, and a stroke. I am achieving my dreams of not only being drug-free, but also of owning and running my own business. I no longer have to hide as I have learned how to shine!
